Cryogenic Vessel Engineer-Trailer Air Liquide - Houston, TX, US

Air Liquide Industrial U.S. ("ALIUS") is actively seeking an Cryogenic Engineer supporting industrial gas transport equipment to be located in Houston, TX. This position will report to the Engineering Manager within the ALIUS IMPEG (Industrial Merchant Project Engineering Group) department. The individual will support the Distribution department as the primary technical resource for engineering of cryogenic and associated gas equipment utilized for distribution of ALIUS products.

 

Safety And Environment
  • Personally comply with all Air Liquide corporate safety standards
  • Interpret regulatory requirements, Air Liquide Group Policy documents and design standards in order to implement and maintain compliant design of the systems and equipment
  • Lead and/or participate in selected incident investigations
  • Provide leadership and guidance to drive continuous improvement for process safety
  • Support the development of selected risk assessments for new and existing assets and in the implementation of subsequent action plans
  • Design, Design Review and Project Execution Supports:
  • Establish design standards for process equipment (trailer vessels, pumps, hoses, piping, controls, etc.) on mobile assets.
  • Ensure design and installation practices are in compliance with all applicable company, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage corporate initiatives for development and upgrade to associated equipment.
  • Provide technical support to Distribution department for process-side equipment: liquid trailers (O2, N2, Ar, CO2, N20, and LH2), gaseous tube trailers (H2, N2, Ar, and He), and other equipment (Depots, other trailers, hoses, etc.).
  • Oversee engineering deliverables; PFDs, P&IDs, Isometrics, sizing calculations, relief valve calculations, Process Controls Strategies, etc.
  • Act as liaison between ALIUS and Vendors to maintain equipment specifications, quality, design changes, and new applications.
  • Responsible for maintaining operation and maintenance procedures related to cryogenic and gaseous mobile equipment.
  • Responsible for establishing equipment rehab requirements.
  • Responsible for approving applicable parts and equipment stocked in the Air Liquide warehouse.
  • Perform SME review and approval for applicable management of change (MOC) requests
  • Reviews and approves Technical Qualification of critical suppliers.
  • Identify and implement efficiencies to designs and operations.
 

Training
  • Build a documented knowledge base of process technology design and operational expertise
  • Support Fleet training program for Drivers
  • Coach and support developing employees to expand their technical knowledge
 

Skill Set, Knowledge And Expertise
  • 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering and Design in the industrial gas industry (preferably experience with transportation equipment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cryogenic and gaseous equipment used Distribution (DOT vessels, piping, pumps, cryogenic components, vent stacks, hoses, etc.)
  • Familiar with transportation equipment (tractors, trailers, etc.)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable industry standards, code compliance and gas applications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable process engineering (flow, pressure, temperature, calculation)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical & chemical properties of Industrial Gases.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills and capability for problem solving and troubleshooting
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and effectively communicate the results of complex analysis
  • Ability to lay out and progress rigorous analysis and problem solving with heavy degrees of ambiguity, complexity and incompleteness of data
  • Strong influencing skills to ensure recommendations made gain support in the business
  • Ability to work with multiple disciplines (pressure vessel, electrical, PLC, etc.)
  • Able to interface effectively with technical and operations staff, at Corporate and field level
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations including NEC, OSHA, Life Safety codes, ASME standards, and CGA documents.
  • General knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control systems and operation of process equipment utilized in Air Liquide technologies.
  • Ability to understand and interpret applicable specifications and standards.
  • Ability to utilize Google Enterprise Apps and MS Office products 
 

Physical Requirements
  • Has full range of motion and ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Able to work around process equipment, including traversing ladders and stairs
  • Able to wear FRC clothing and other PPE
  • Ability to travel as needed (limited travel anticipated)
 

Educational / Experience Requirements
  • BS degree in Engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience
  • 5+ years of engineering and / or operational experiences in relevant areas of Industrial Gas systems.
  • Fluent in English.
